Tips for photo session preparation:

Photography is this wonderful thing that allows people to express themselves. There are people out there who love to get their picture taken and others who shy away from the camera but everyone can look good on film. What’s important is to relax, have fun and come prepared. A few tips for your photography session….Below you will find a brief outline of how to prepare yourself for your session

Make-up

Everyone wants to look their best for the camera and make-up is all a part of the process. You are welcome to do your own makeup, in fact we prefer it. We encourage that you only wear the normal makeup that you would wear, so that the images we create are representative of the way you would normally look and feel.

Hair styling

It’s a good idea to have your hair cut and groomed before a photo shoot. If you normally have a perm or tint, it is a good idea to do this prior to your shoot. You can try different looks with your hair, for example, if you have long hair you may wish to have it up or down during the shoot, but this should be done in the most natural way. It is a good idea to bring a hair brush so that you can touch up any hair if necessary prior to the shoot.

Wardrobe

A few photography tips with wardrobe…Make sure your garments are neatly ironed and clean. Avoid logos and advertising, unless there is a strong personal significance. Try a few combinations before hand to see what works best for you. We recommend one or two different looks. You might go for something very casual to start with, maybe jeans and a T-Shirt. Followed by a dressier outfit that you might wear out on a Saturday Night. You might also want a look that is very formal.

Group Shots

It’s important that for large groups everyone wears similar colors and tones, so that everyone blends in the photos and no particular person stands out excessively.

Ideas

1. One color only , all white or all black

2. Shirts in different shades of the same color

3. Matching outfits for children

4. Jeans for everyone plus light matching tops

Jewelry

Unless Jewelry is co-coordinated and adds to the shoot, we recommends that Jewelry be removed to enable us to capture you in the most natural and most uncomplicated way we can. We want to draw the focus to you and your personality, not necessarily any of the accessories. Jewelry tends to create reflections and unnecessarily draws attention away from you. Finally, get plenty of sleep before the shoot. Just relax and be yourself, we will do the rest for you.

Pet Photography

Your pets are comfortable with you close by, We take photos for customers with pets but not pet (only) session. If you are coming with pets, the session will have to be done out door  due to newborn baby session happens in the studio all the time. Thanks for your understanding. Your Pets need to look their best too. Ensure they are properly groomed. A good idea is if you have a regular time that you groom your pets, use that day to book your shoot. Please consider the following: Bathing Grooming including clipping and brushing Clipping of nails Cleaning of eyes Bring your Pets favourite treats, especially if your pet is untrained. This will help in getting their attention. Other props or accessories may add to the shoot

Transit & Parking

Calgary: Eau Claire Market ground parking & underground parking are available. There is also pay lots outside of the mall, and parking meters on the surrounding streets. Please arrive few minutes early to your shoot, to ensure a parking spot! New Westminster: Easily accessible by Sky-Train (New Westminster Station). Studio is right cross from the station. Parking meter: surrounding streets.

Sitting Fee: $125 (Suggested newborn photography timing 7-15 days old)

Your Newborn's photography session should be an exciting time for your family. But parents often find themselves worried and anxious about preparing themselves and their babies for the big occasion. With a little planning, you can relax and enjoy the session, knowing all your bases are covered. Years from now, you'll be glad you booked a newborn photo session so you can stroll back in time to the days when you didn't have to share your child with the rest of the world.

Making sure you keep your baby awake prior to a session is a great way to guarantee they will sleep through most of it. That will lead to pictures, instead of ones where they look enraged or red-faced from crying.

Newborns are always hungry. You don't want their photo session disrupted by their frantic cries for milk. Feeding and burping your infant right before the session begins means less crying, better sleep and relaxed parents (and photographer!). Avoid giving them a full meal in the 1-2 hours before your session. If they seem hungry, try to give them a small snack to get them through. Then slightly before shooting, you can feed them a full meal and expect a happy, tired baby in return. Most photo sessions last around 1-2 hours, which leaves plenty of time to refuel if your child wakes up expecting a snack. Just make sure to have an extra bottle on hand if you use formula.

About 30 minutes before the session, change your baby's diaper into a loose (but not too loose), clean one and swaddle them. Most of the photographers prefer babies to be naked during the session. A loose diaper is the best because it will avoid creating diaper marks around their waist. By breastfeeding (or bottle-feeding), they will be able to calm down quickly, and most likely fall asleep immediately after their eating time.

Try to keep the volume down to maintain a calm environment. When you get overwhelmed, you and your baby can both feel it. Staying relaxed and quiet will ensure a calm atmosphere.

Photographers know how much your baby means to you, and they are treated accordingly. Any experienced newborn photographer will know exactly what positions will be comfortable for your baby.

Sitting Fee: $75 for child (1y – 12y) Child Photography We capture the personality and nature of your child. Select clothing that really express your child's  personality. Combining your child’s interests such as football/soccer/ballet/swimming etc. is a good idea that adds something about your child’s uniqueness.     When booking your photo session choose a time of day that best suits your child’s mood and carefully consider their sleeping and eating patterns. We do recommend that you pack a suitable bag containing your child’s favourite snacks, treats and refreshments. Please ensure hair is neatly groomed, set, or styled according to the desired result you have in mind. We also recommend you reassure your child about the photo session and let them know that it is about having loads of fun and laughter and not to fear the camera or the photographer. During the photo session it is common that your child may be shy at first. Don’t worry, it’s our job to help your child relax. We will wait until the timing is right. There is no rush on the day, we will get the look. No pressure!

Session Fee: $69 Maternity Session Styling Tips

Make it Fitted
Don’ be hiding your figure behind baggy clothes! Generally this means buying your normal pregnancy size in maternity labels as the extra belly room has been allowed for. If you buy too big the garment will not fit properly and the excess fabric will not be flattering. Wearing fitted garments emphasis your beautiful belly and minimizes areas you feel self conscious about. Every pregnant women has some area of her body she feels self conscious about whilst pregnant, but too much material and bagginess will actually make them look larger than they are.

Layer upon layer Make good use of layering to emphasis the good and minimize the, well, bits that are not so good!  Try wearing fitted items underneath and you will hide larger hips and thighs but still look awesome!

Comfortable Chances are, you’re already feeling a bit awkward and unbalanced with your baby belly. Trying to squeeze into your favorite pregnancy jeans for a photography session, will make you feel even more uncomfortable and also restrict your movement during the session. Items that will stretch and move with you will be fantastic and you will be wonderfully comfortable.  You can also consider a bedroom themed session, because there is nothing more comfortable.

Versatility Choose versatile pieces – those that can be worn with a different items to change the feel in your session without too much effort.  With a little bit of planning your session outfit/s need not be items bought specifically.  A number of maternity items which are perfect for your session can be worn everyday during your pregnancy and after little one’s arrival.  For example, pregnancy leggings and tank dresses!  They are stylish for shoots, comfortable and wearable whether you are pregnant or not- certainly versatile!

Color is key As well as thinking about the colors that flatter you, also think about the styling of the images you want. Dark and chic clothes result in dark and chic images.  Light and airy result in a light and airy images! If you wear a lighter colour top under a black top you get a flash of colour and interest whilst wearing black which is always so nice and flattering!

Texture Texture in outfit pieces will contrast wonderfully against smooth skin to add beauty and interest to your images. Think soft knits, chunky cable-knit cardigans and delicate scarves.

Accessories The best way to change it up during your session and to minimize the requirement to buy lots of clothes for your session, is to accessories well. Scarves are great, cotton in Summer or wool in Winter. Or add a casual necklace to any outfit for a unique style in your photos.

Well fitting underwear Unfortunately your underwear sizes could change a few times during pregnancy, so it is important to update as the pregnancy progresses and particularly for your session. All your clothes will look better over underwear that is fitting properly.

Dare to Bear Celebrate everything that is beautiful about being a pregnant woman! You’re gorgeous and sexy, so in addition to bearing your belly, think about bearing as much skin as you dare to capture the gorgeous female form during pregnancy.

Treat yourself Just in case you needed another reason to pamper yourself during your pregnancy. Manicures, pedicures, pregnancy massage all help you to look and feel your best! If you look after yourself you will have more energy and look your fabulous best in your photos.

Boudoir Session Preparation Tips:

How to prepare for your shoot?

Night before:

-drink plenty of water

-have a good nights sleep (true beauty rest)

-Make sure finger nails and toe nails are in good shape (no chipped nail polish)

Day of shoot:

-Shave legs, armpits and bikini line (quick tip- wipe rubbing alcohol after shave to avoid razor burn)

-make sure your face and body are well moisturized

-if you are not getting your hair and makeup done by us make sure to put a little extra on. (makeup for the camera is different then makeup for everyday. Rule of thumb is makeup will photograph 2 shades lighter)

Makeup tips:

Use matte colors- Matte makeup won’t reflect light, making it easy to apply and easy to shoot. If you do have colors that have shimmer in them that you want to use bring it along and we can give it a try.

Fill in your eyebrows- Even if you don’t do it on a daily basis, your eyes and face will look more complete if your eyebrows are polished. (especially for blondes, very blonde eyebrows will disappear in a photo)

Use powder- to reduce shine and to set your makeup. (bring with you as we may use it during the shoot)

Use false lashes-  they make a huge difference almost all our clients use them. Even if they seem to long in photo they look proportionate. If you want something more natural there are individual lashes that you can put at the corner of your eyes.

Apply your makeup in natural light (if you can)- this will give you the best idea of what your makeup will look like and how it will look in photos.

Wear lip gloss- By wearing lip gloss it really helps your lips look fuller (if you have more then one color of lip gloss or lip stick bring it along and we can switch up what your wearing)

Wear black mascara- Wearing black mascara will bring out your eyes a lot more then a brown would.

Hair tips

Big hair- Is great for boudoir styled images

Curly or Straight- is up to you, having curls or some wave in your hair will give it more movement but straight is very sexy as well.

Hairspray- use as little as possible if any at all. We want to be able to play with your hair, if you use to much hair spray hair there will be little movement too it.

Hair accessories- pony tails or clips are great to change your hair style quickly.

*** If you are getting your makeup done by us please come with a clean and moisturized face and your hair clean and blow dried ***

What to bring?

(the more you bring the more options we have even if we don’t use all of it)

-at a minimum bring a great bra and panty set. (it can be mismatched)

-lingerie- corsets, Teddy’s, garter belts, stockings, high waisted underwear, boy shorts, slips, body suite, push up bras, etc.

-accessories- jewellery, hats, scarves, shoes, hair pieces, fishnet stockings or hosiery, etc.

-clothing- dresses, jackets, jeans, button down tops, short shorts, pajamas,

t-shirts, tanks, skirts, etc.

-a great pair of heels go a long way-bring as many as you like.

-anything clothing you feel sexy or really great in. (anything can be sexy)

-you can bring any type of props : past clients have brought in work tools, partners clothing, instruments, sports equipment. Bring in anything that is special to you (unless they are to large. example motorcycle)

-Your confidence- its the mot important thing to have during your shoot, our studio is place where you can love yourself and I do ask you to. Our studio is a non-judgmental and safe place for you to have your boudoir session.

Much love!

P.S. It’s always fun to plan to do something after your shoot, your going to feel great and look great why not go for dinner or a couple of drinks with someone special.
